Pentium III 450 overclocking

- Hlađenje i overclocking -

Morali smo dobro pričvrstiti Peltier na heatsink, napraviti spacer-e koji idu između Alphe i cache memorije te onda to sve dobro izolirati sa spužvom tako da ako dođe do kondenzacije oko Peltiera, voda ne prodre do procesora i/ili matične ploče. Trebalo nam je par dana da to sve sastavimo kako treba. Strah od kondenzacije nas je naveo na to da stegnemo heatsink na procesor toliko da se procesor zakrivio kao banana. Na svu sreću to nije imalo negativnih posljedica. Ono što moramo napomenuti je to da ako se čovjek odluči na Peltier hlađenje onda mora imati i izvrstan heatsink kao što je Alpha jer nešto mora "micati" jaku toplinu koju generira vruća strana Peltier-a. Obični hladnjak kakav se uglavnom može nabaviti kod nas nije nikako prikladan za takvu vrstu hlađenja.

Nakon što smo se uvjerili da sve radi na tvorničkoj brzini, bacili smo se na postepeno overclock-anje. Prvo smo dignuli FSB (front-side bus) na 112MHz (brzina procesora 504MHz) a ubrzo nakon toga i na 124MHz (560MHz). Procesor je radio bez problema na tim brzinama i to na standarnoj voltaži od 2.0V. Prvi su rezultati bili više nego zadovoljavajući iako je pri FSB od 124MHz mrežna kartica prestala raditi zbog previsoke brzine PCI sabirnice (124/3= 41.3MHz). Taj je problem bio brzo riješen promjenom djeljitelja koji određuje brzinu PCI sabirnice sa 3 na 4 (FSB/djeljitelj= frekvencija PCI sabirnice) kroz BIOS Abit BE6 matične ploče koja je korištena uz Pentium III. Puni očekivanja dignuli smo FSB na 133MHz (600MHz) da bi se onda mašina srušila pri dizanju Windows-a. Povećali smo voltažu na 2.1V i to je riješilo sve probleme. Super! Cilj od 600MHz je ostvaren bez previše muke.
