Hlađenje uz pomoć Peltiera

- Što je Peltierov članak? -

Što je Peltierov članak?

Peltierov članak je termoelektrički modul koji radi po principu Peltierovog efekta otkrivenog 1834. od strane istoimenog znanstvenika. Unutar članka nalazi se niz poluvodiča n i p tipa okruženih dvjema keramičkim pločicama. U trenutku kada člankom protiče struja nedostatak (p tip), odnosno višak (n tip) elektrona, rezultirat će u razdvajanju topline - Peltierovom efektu. Članak kojim teče struja dakle ima toplu i hladnu stranu. Mi ćemo hladnu stranu prisloniti na procesor, dok ćemo s tople strane jakim hladilom disipirati toplinu- s obzirom da Peltierov članak samo razdvaja toplinu, tj. ne apsorbira je. Korišten na taj način, Peltierov članak nosi naziv TEC - Thermoelectric Cooler.

Karakteristike Peltierovog članka i njegova učinkovitost izražavaju se putem:

  • Imax
    mjerna jedinica amper
    maksimalna potrošnja struje pri najvećem naponu
  • Qmax
    mjerna jedinica watt
    maksimalna snaga pri najvećem naponu
  • Vmax
    mjerna jedinica volt
    najveći napon pri kojem članak može raditi
  • Delta T max
    mjerna jedinica stupanj celzijus
    najveća razlika u temperaturi između tople i hladne strane članka pri najvećem naponu
  • Dimenzije
    širina, visina i debljina članka

TEC koji ćemo u radionici koristiti je slijedećih karakteristika:

  • Imax 8.0A
  • Qmax 80W
  • Vmax 16.1V
  • Delta T max 71C
  • Dimenzije 40x40x3.4mm

Pri odabiru TEC-a potrebno je posebno paziti na napon. Naime, najveći napon koji jednostavno možete dobiti iz napajanja vašeg računala je 12V, a performanse TEC-a navedene su pri najvećem naponu (dakle opadaju pri nižim naponima). TEC-ovi jačine preko 100W često se reklamiraju u raznim Internet trgovinama, no rijetki su oni koji napišu kako taj TEC ima snagu od 100W pri naponu od 25V. S takvim TEC-om spojenim na napajanje vašeg računala jedva ćete izvući 50W snage! Pri kupovini obratite pažnju na to da TEC pri 12V ima dovoljnu snagu da ohladi Vaš procesor. Termalne karakteristike procesora možete naći na site-ovima tvrtki koje ih proizvode, najčešće Intel i AMD, ili na raznim grupama na usenetu, kao npr hr.comp.hardware.

Drugi problem sa TEC-ovima, i to nešto sofisticiraniji, tiče se korozije. Naime, unutar svakog članka nalaze se poluvodiči rađeni od raznih metala, a na krajevima su keramičke ploće sa po 70C temperaturne razlike. Ako TEC nije dobro izoliran, unutar njega se može kondenzirati vlaga i izazvati koroziju koja će na kraju uništiti sam članak, a kao rezultat toga sam sistem hlađenja neće raditi i procesor će vrlo brzo pregorjeti. Zato uvijek tražite punjene tj. izolirane module. Za izolaciju se najčešće koriste gumasti materijali koji nisu porozni, no dovoljno su elastični da omogućuju poluvodičima da se pri većoj toplini rašire tj. smanje. Oscilacije u dimenzijama su minimalne, no loše izvedeno punjenje članka može izazvati njegovo pucanje pa umjesto da to radite sami, rađe kupite takve gotove module.

Na slici možete vidjeti kako se između dvije keramičke pločice članka nalazi crna gumasta tvar kojom je ispunjena unutrašnjost članka i onemogućava kondenziranje vlage unutar samog članka.

Što je zapravo cold plate?

Na svakom uputstvu koje dobijete uz TEC pisat će da se preporuča korištenje cold plate-a. Ne radi se o nikakvoj kompliciranoj niti skupoj tehnološkoj napravi, već o pločici bakra ili aluminija koja se stavlja na jednu stranu TEC-a (ovisno da li ga koristimo za grijanje ili hlađenje), a ima funkciju "akumulatora" topline. Mi smo se odlučili za pločicu od bakra istih dimenzija kao i naš TEC. Ideja iza cold plate-a tj. hladne ploče je da TEC cijelom svojom površinom hladi dok jezgra procesora pokriva tek malen dio te površine. Kako bi se što bolje iskoristila snaga TEC-a na njega se stavlja hladna ploča koju TEC hladi i koja ima puno bolja termička svojstva od keramičke ploče. Bakar ima odlična termička svojstva i u stanju je vrlo brzo pokupiti toplinu s procesora tj. prenijeti hladnoću s TEC-a.
