Usporedni test Athlon 64 ploča, Part I

AMD je napravio stvarno dobar posao s Athlon 64 / Athlon 64 FX procesorima, tu dvojbe nema. No, kakva je situacija s matičnim pločama? U ovom članku pokrit ćemo sve Athlon 64 ploče do kojih smo se uspjeli dokopati u zadnjih mjesec dana. Isprobali smo slijedeće ploče:

  • ALi DB873 Reference (Socket754, ALi M1687/1563)
  • ASUS SK8N (Socket940, nForce3 150 Pro)
  • ASUS K8V Deluxe (Socket754, VIA K8T800)
  • Chaintech ZNF3-150 Zenith (Socket754, nForce3 150)
  • Gigabyte K8NNXP (Socket754, nForce3 150)
  • EPoX 8HDA3+ (Socket754, VIA K8T800)
  • MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R (Socket754, VIA K8T800).

Kao što vidimo iz liste, u ovom testu nalaze se ploče na bazi chipseta različitih proizvođača. Uz to, tu je i jedna ploča namjenjena za Socket940 procesore (ASUS SK8N) te jedna referentna ploča koja se ne može naći u slobodnoj prodaji (ALi DB873). Odlučili smo u isti test staviti ploče na bazi različitih chipseta jer, u teoriji, razlike u performansama između njih nebi smjele biti visoke zbog toga što je ključna stvar (memorijski kontroler) integriran na sam procesor. Neovisno o tome ASUS SK8N je van konkurencije (tj. nismo joj dali ocjenu) jer ju nismo mogli usporediti s nekom drugom Socket940 pločom. Isto tako smo i ALi DB873 ploču stavili van konkurencije jer se radi o referentnoj ploči, a ne o proizvodu koji se može naći na tržištu.

Ukoliko se nadate pročitati puno lijepih stvari, biti ćete razočarani. Jednostavno, situacija s pločama za Athlon 64 procesore je jako loša, tj. one trenutno pate od popriličnog broja problema. Ovo je veliko razočarenje jer se ne može reći da proizvođači chipseta i matičnih ploča nisu imali dovoljno vremena da naprave bolji posao. Uz to je i memorijski kontroler, najčešći izvor problema (pogotovo za VIA chipsete), integriran na procesoru. Čovjek se zapita u čemu je toliki problem! Nada ostaje da će se situacija popraviti tokom vremena, tj. da će proizvođači matičnih ploča putem novih BIOS-a popraviti stvari. Nažalost, kako su neki problemi bili zajednička stvar za više ploča različitih proizvođača, problematika bi mogla biti i puno dublja. U razlike između chipseta nećemo ulaziti jer smo dovoljno o njima napisali u našem testu Athlon 64 / Athlon 64 FX procesora.

Prije nego što se bacimo na same ploče, popratit ćemo i nešto zajedničko za sve Athlon 64 procesore - način montiranja hladnjaka. Za SocketA cooleri su se uglavnom montirali uz pomoć kopči (direktno na socket) ili pomoću četiri rupe kraj socketa. Na Athlonu 64 AMD se odlučio približiti Intelu, tj. na pločama se nalazi plastični dio na koji se onda pričvrščuje hladnjak putem kopče. Princip je vrlo jednostavan i po nama korak naprijed spram SocketA riješenja. Plastični dio na koji se montira hladnjak može se skinuti čime oslobođamo dvije rupe putem kojih onda možemo montirati stvari poput bloka za vodeno hlađenje (naravno, ako je blok predviđen za Socket754/940). Jedan od blokova koji se može tako montirati je i onaj koji dolazi s asetek WaterChill paketom. Dobra stvar je i ta što se isti hladnjaci mogu montirati i na Socket754 i na Socket940 ploče. Stvar koja nije tako idealna jest ta što na nekim pločama plastični dio ne drže samo dva vijka, već i ljepljiva traka koja je u kontaktu s donjim dio ploče. Ljepljiva traka obično nije dovljno jaka da stvar nećete moći odljepiti no nakon toga vam ne gine čiščenje ostataka ljepila s donje strane ploče.

Dakle, rješenje nije idealno, ali je ipak korak naprijed, pogotovo ako uzmemo u obzir da Athlon 64 / Athlon 64 FX procesori na sebi imaju i heat spreader pa je lomljenje jezgre, tako učestala stvar na SocketA procesorima, stvar prošlosti.

Sada je vrijeme da se pozabavimo samim pločama! Krenut ćemo s pločama koje su van konkurencije (ASUS SK8N i ALi DB873) a onda ćemo prijeći na one koje će dobiti ocjenu.
