SONY DRU-700A Dual Layer

- Dual Layer Tehnologija -

Dual Layer tehnologiju je razvio Philips u suradnji sa MKM (Mitsubishi Kagaku Media)/Verbatim kompanijom. DL DVD diskovi nude kapacitet od čak 8.5GB, tj. četiri sata MPEG-2 videa visoke kvalitete ili 16 sati VHS kvalitete. Postizanje kompatibilnosti sa DVD9 specifikacijama je bila glavna misao vodilja u stvaranju DL DVD+R medija. Tim specifikacijama kako znate odgovaraju i DVD diskovi koje posuđujete u videotekama. I tako smo napokon dobili mogućnost da i sami snimamo razne podatke na 8.5GB medije, a kako je zbog DVD9 specifikacija postignuta visoka kompatibilnost sa različitim DVD čitačima tako je ova tehnologija pun pogodak. Čak je i naš "stari" Hitachi GD-5000 pročitao zaprženi DL medij, dok to isto nije mogao sa velikim brojem običnih DVD-a. Za razliku od jednostranih jednoslojnih DVD diskova, ovi imaju dva zasebna organska sloja za snimanje nazvana L0 i L1, koji se nalaze između dvostruke polikarbonatne baze i polureflektivnih metalnih slojeva odvojenih prozirnim slojem (spacer).

Kako to radi u praksi: prilikom čitanja ili pisanja na disk, optika uređaja fokusira laser na jedan od dva sloja i pokušava detektirati ADIP signal iz kojeg DVD rekorder detektira da li se radi o DL mediju i na koji je sloj laser fokusiran. Tada laser mijenja raspon svog fokusa gore - dolje i na taj način pristupa prvom ili drugom sloju diska. Nakon toga laser se fokusira na "Lead-In" područje da ustanovi da li je disk prazan, djelomično zapisan (Multi Session) ili pun. Pisanje po disku se odvija u dvije faze. Laser prvo zagrijava prvi sloj L0 ( i na taj način nepovratno mijenja njegove fizičke i kemijske karakteristike, tj. zapisuje podatke) i to iz unutarnjeg oboda diska prema vanjskom. Kada je dosegnuta krajnja točka zapisivanja informacija dodaje se središnja zona 0, nakon toga laser se fokusira na drugi sloj L1 i stvara središnju zonu 1 koja preklapa zonu 0, i nastavlja pisati od vanjskog oboda prema unutarnjem. Prilikom čitanja snimljenog DL DVD-a stvara se problem prelaska lasera sa jednog sloja na drugi i iako taj prijelaz ne osjetimo (npr. prilikom glednja filma) on je prisutan i prilično se teško kontrolira.

Reflektivnost oba sloja je ista i malo je veća od 18%, a reflektivnost između slojeva je veća od 50% jer gornji L1 sloj upija i reflektira dio energije koja je usmjerena na prvi L0 sloj da bi zapisivanje na organsku boju bilo moguće. Kao rezultat, formulacija organske boje i oblik brazda dual layer medija moraju biti optimizirani tako da pružaju potrebnu reflektivnost za oba sloja. Prozirni sloj (spacer) odvaja L0 i L1 slojeve i spriječava snimanje istog sadržaja na oba sloja. "Spacer" je proziran i dozvoljava laseru da je lako fokusira na bilo koji sloj jednostavnim mijenjanjem pozicije objektne leće.

Verbatimovih 8.5GB...

Trenutno samo DVD+RW Alijansa ima svoj dual layer standard koji se formalno naziva Double Layer. Tako je i naš Verbatim DVD+R DL medij i trenutno je ograničen na snimanje brzinom od 2.4x, odnosno 3312kb/s, a ubrzo se očekuje i povećanje brzine snimanja na 4x. Format "+" ima veliku Sony-evu podršku i upravo su oni izbacili prvu takvu pržilicu, a o njoj u nastavku.
