Socket939 i kako posijediti u tri dana

- Uvod i problemi -

Uvod

U našem testu Corsair 3200XL memorije spomenuli smo kako spremamo članak o tome kakvi sve problemi muče Socket939 ploče. Problemi o kojima ćemo pričati izvukli smo iz naših iskustava sa tri S939 ploče - Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939, ASUS A8V Deluxe i ABIT AV8. Gigabyte ploču smo već isprobali (a u ovom članku ćete moći pročitati što nam je sve tada promaklo), ASUS smo isprobali do neke mjere jer nam je na test stigla ploča starije revizije bez podrške za AGP/PCI lock dok smo ABIT AV8 ploči "izvadili mast". Drugim riječima, osim svih problema sa S939 platformama, u ovom članku dobijete i puni test ABIT AV8 ploče. Krenimo!

Prvo ćemo krenuti sa prošlošću - sa Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939 pločom. Tu ploču ocijenili smo dobro jer se stvarno pokazala u dobrom svjetlu. No, razlog za to bilo je korištenje krive memorije - Corsaira 3500C2. Sada su vam se vjerovatno digle obrve u čuđenju no vjerujte objašnjenje je vrlo jednostavno. Corsair 3500C2 je toliko dobra memorija da što god isprobate sa njom ispadne bolje nego što jest. Da je to tako shvatili smo kada smo počeli isprobavati Corsair 3200XL memoriju i zato smo odlučili da više za testove matičnih ploča nećemo uopće koristiti dobre, stare 3500C2 module. Sa Corsairom 3200XL je Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939 ploča "povampirila" i tek je stavljanje postavki na 3-4-4-8 (!) donjelo stabilan rad (i to na samo 400MHz!). Postavke 3-4-4-8 za memoriju koja je deklarirana za 2-2-2-5 je ipak malo previše, zar ne? Nažalost, slična stvar se ponovila i sa Corsair 4000PRO memorijom koja je do sada radila na 2-3-3-6 na frekvenciji do maks. 428MHz na apsolutno svim pločama u koju smo ju stavili (neovisno o čipsetu). Na K8NSNXP-939 najbolje što smo mogli dobiti na 400MHz bilo je 2.5-3-3-6. Tako smo za ubuduće odlučili koristiti Corsair 3200XL stickove za testove, zajedno sa Kingmax "Color Module" DDR466 memorijom jer na muci se poznaju junaci. Naravno, nije samo memorija bila problem...

 

Problemi problemi problemi

Iako smo i prilikom inicijalnog testiranja skužili da Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939 voli ratovati sa memorijskim postavkama, pravu stranu je ova ploča pokazala tek kada smo iz nje izvadili Corsair 3500C2 memoriju i stavili 3200XL module. Tu je nastala katastrofa iako je nekima pomoglo to što su memoriju stavili u utore broj 3 i 4 a postavke na 2-3-2-11, no mi nismo bili te sreće. No, memorija nije jedini problem od koje pati K8NSNXP-939.

Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939 problemi:

  • ratuje sa memorijom i mrzi agresivne postavke
  • problem sa memorijom posebno izražen sa stickovima koji koriste Samsung TCCD čipove (npr. Corsair 3200XL)
  • velika gužva oko socketa pa veći hladnjaci mogu biti problem
  • ne mjeri temperature kako treba
  • ploča zna zaštekat nakon promjene nečega u BIOS-u
  • opasni beta BIOS-i (F4P i F4K) koje šalje Gigabyteov support.

Od gorih problema je ovaj sa mjerenjem temperatura jer K8NSNXP-939 daje temperature poput 17-18C za CPU pa makar vam na hladnjaku crkao ventilator i cijela stvar samo što se ne rastopi. Uz to se treba paziti beta BIOS-a koje će vam poslati sam Gigabyte kada se požalite na probleme - po 'Netu ima dosta ljudi kojima je ploča otišla u vječna lovišta nakon flashanja. Inače, šuška se i tome da će Gigabyte na tržište izbaciti sasvim novu reviziju ploče jer da sa sadašnjom ne mogu riješiti probleme... krasno, zar ne? Biti će zanimljivo kako će se takvi RMA-ovi hendlati kod nas - vjerovatno nikako.

ASUS A8V Deluxe nas je pak puno manje namučio, no kako smo dobili ploču revizije 1.02 koja ne podržava AGP/PCI lock, na njoj nismo mogli dobro overclockati.

ASUS A8V Deluxe Rev1.xx problemi:

  • AGP/PCI lock ne radi, za to treba Rev2.0 ploča kakvu trenutno nismo uspjeli naći u Hrvatskoj
  • dual channel rad zna zezati sa nekim (istina rijetkim) stickovima
  • automatski overclocking zeza i mora ga se u potpunosti isključiti u BIOS-u da nebi došlo do problema sa POST-anjem.

Nažalost, neki puta ni isključivanje auto-overclockinga ne pomogne jer ga ploča sama uključi pa ploča zapne prilikom bootanja sa porukom "overclocking failed".
