Socket939 i kako posijediti u tri dana

- Problemi, problemi, problemi (nastavak) -

Prije nego krenemo na probleme od kojih pati ABIT AV8 ploča, treba spomenuti jedan problem koji muči skoro sve ploče - HyperTransport frekva prilikom overclockinga. HyperTransport sabirnica na S939 pločama po defaultu radi na 1000MHz. Prilikom overclockinga njezin takt također raste i na većini ploča problemi se već pojavljuju na oko 1050MHz. Neke ploče su malo tolerantnije pa stvari počnu štekat na oko 1150MHz (što bi bilo na "FSB-u" od oko 230MHz). Da bi izbjegli ograničenje HT-a neki put je dovoljno samo dići voltažu u BIOS-u (ukoliko to ploča nudi) a 100% sigurno rješenje jest usporavanje HT sabirnice na 800MHz (na nekim pločama se to radi tako da se množitelj za HT smanji sa 5 na 4).

A sada da pokrijemo sve probleme koji smo našli na ABIT AV8 ploči.

ABIT AV8 problemi:

  • osjetljiva na memoriju ali ni približno kao K8NSNXP-939 - 3200XL npr. na AV8 radi stabilno na 2.5-3-2-5 a 4000PRO na očekivanih 2-3-3-6. Problem leži u dual channel radu jer isti stickovi sami za sebe rade puno bolje
  • krivo mjeri temperature
  • slab overclocker
  • promjena množitelja ne radi na pločama 1.0 revizije (potrebna revizija je 1.1)
  • ne radi sa nekim napajanjima (npr. sa Antec i AOpen napajanjima)
  • ploča nije pamtila zadane parametre u BIOS-u kako treba sve do verzije BIOS-a 1.2.

Slab overclocking nas je jako ražalostio a razlog za to leži što ABIT nije podržao promjenu množitelja na 1.0 pločama. Ovo je inače smiješno ograničenje jer množitelj možete promijeniti softverski putem ClockGen programa (i to namijenjenog za KV8-Max3 ploču). Da je to moguće ne čudi jer su Athlon 64 procesori sami po sebi otključani zbog Cool'n'Quiet tehnologije. Mi smo probali overclocking poboljšati na taj način što bi uz pomoć ClockGen-a snizili množitelj a onda uz pomoć Guru utilitya dignuli FSB. To nažalost nije funkcioniralo jer bi se Guru poklao sa ClockGen-om. Zastrašujuće je i to kako AV8 loše mjeri temperature. Prvi puta smo primjetili da stvari ne rade kako treba kada su nam se nakon samo dva sata rada uključili svi mogući i nemogući alarmi (koje hendla isto Guru) i tvrdili da nam je CPU prešao preko 70C iako smo koristili vodeno hlađenje. Uskoro smo skužili da je to lažni alarm i morali smo sve zaštite isključiti jer bi Guru nakon nekog vremena jednostavno poludio i počeo tvrditi da CPU radi na abnormalnim temperaturama... Ovaj problem nije riješen niti sa 1.4 BIOS-om koji je izašao prije par dana niti sa 1.5beta verzijom.

No, ni to nije sve. ABIT AV8 ratuje i sa napajanjima. Mi smo prvo probali pokrenuti ovu ploču sa AOpen 350W napajanjem i nije išlo. Mislili smo da je ploča mrtva, pogotovo što se isto ponovilo sa jednim Antec napajanjem. Nismo odustali pa smo onda probali i sa Enlight 460W napajanjem i sve je bilo OK. Dodatno istraživanje pokazalo je da AV8 ne želi raditi sa bilo kojim Antec napajanjem (čak ni 550W modelima). Žalosno, zar ne!?

Treba reći i to da i ostale S939 ploče pate od problema, npr. za MSI ploče se zna da muku muče sa SATA podrškom. Sve to nam jasno govori da Socket939 ploče uopće nisu zrele i da veliki dio odgovornosti leži i na proizvođačima čipseta jer su problemi univerzalni neovisno o tome da li se radi o pločamana na bazi VIA K8T800 Pro ili NVIDIA nForce3 250 Ultra čipseta. Iskreno se nadamo da će problemi ipak ubrzo biti riješeni jer je velika šteta da odlični procesori poput Athlona 64 3500+ ili 3800+ nemaju adekvatne partnere. Straši nas i to što će se uskoro pojaviti Socket939 3000 i 3200+ procesori koji će sa sobom sigurno donijeti rast popularnosti S939 platformi i samim tim veći broj korisnika. Veći broj korisnika će pak donijeti na vidjelo ogroman broj problema koji krase ovu platformu.

A sad je vrijeme za test AV8 ploče koja ipak nije totalna propast - autor ovih redaka ju je na kraju ipak uspio ukrotiti da radi solidno.
