Usporedni test i915 matičnih ploča

- Uvod -

Jao i kukulele, mrzimo usporedne testove matičnih ploča! Eto, morali smo to reći da si olakšamo dušu. Najgore je to što frustracija i stres koju smo akumulirali nije rezultat loše kvalitete ploča već problema koje smo imali da uopće sakupimo ploče za test. Dok smo Albatron i SuperMicro 915 ploče isprobali već prije, a ASUS i ABIT ploče nabavili lako, za sve ostale ploče je pak bila noćna mora... Kao prvo, svi osim Tier 1 proizvođača (MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS i ABIT) su debelo kasnili sa izlaskom svojih modela (na neke još i sada čekamo). Kao drugo, dosta je firmi odlučilo opasno štedjeti sa test primjercima pa smo bili osuđeni osloniti se na lokalne distributere - što će reći da smo morali čekati i čekati i čekati... I tako tek danas donosimo ovaj članak, a planirali smo ga za 15.9. Najgore je pak to što smo originalno računali na jedno 9-10 ploča, a ovaj članak pokriva njih samo 4. Tako smo isprobali ASUS P5GD2 Deluxe, ABIT AG8, MSI 915P Neo Platinum i Chaintech V915P Zenith VE (zadnja ploča je poseban slučaj!).

O Intel 915, odnosno Grantsdale čipsetima, smo već dosta napisali tako da ih u ovom članku nećemo posebno obrađivati. Oni koji žele, uvijek mogu pročitati neki od naših starijih članaka. Jedino što treba sada reći jest da smo ostali iznimno iznenađeni sporošću izlazaka 915 ploča manjih proizvođača. Razloga za to ima više:

  • Intel je imao problema sa nekim serijama ICH6R South Bridge čipa pa se proizvođači nisu htjeli zaletavati sa prodajom ploča
  • Slaba tech podrška - Intel proizvođačima nije dao potpune informacije o čipsetima (vrijedi i za 925X)
  • Većina proizvođača je probala nekako na svoju ruku popraviti situaciju sa lošim overclockom koji rezultira ne postojanjem frekvencijskog locka za PCIe sabirnicu (što je zahtjevalo dodatne resurse, kako vremenske, tako i ljudske i novčane)
  • Slaba prodaja retail S775 procesora u SAD
  • PCIe 16x grafičkih kartica nije inicijalno bilo dovoljno na tržištu.

Vjerovatno postoji još neki razlog, ali ukoliko postoji, nama je "pobjegao". Žalosno je što smo mi nabavili S775 procesor, DDR2-533 memoriju i PCIe 6800GT grafičku karticu još krajem srpnja, a veći broj ploča nam je u ruke počeo dolaziti tek u zadnja 2 tjedna. Jedine svjetle iznimke bile su Albatron i SuperMicro ploče koje su proizvođači poslali stvarno brzo nakon izlaska samih čipseta. To što je situacija sa npr. Athlon 64 Socket939 pločama još gora nije nikakva utjeha - mi smo željeli napraviti veliki usporedni test 915 pa onda 925 ploča a sada ćemo se morati zadovoljiti sa više nastavaka u kojima ćemo isprobati po par ploča. Jedina dobra stvar je to što je lakše sjesti i napisati članak o 3-4 ploče nego napisati test 9-10 ploča... Ipak, to je slaba utjeha!

Prije nego krenemo sa opisima ploča moramo napomenuti da sa i915 pločama nismo imali nekih većih problema i da je njihovo testiranje bilo prilično lako. S druge strane, 915 čipset nije donio nikakav pravi pomak naprijed u performansama. Da situacija bude gore, overclocking je izrazito ograničen. Zašto je to tako smo već pisali, ali možda treba ponoviti - 915/925 čipseti nemaju PCIe lock te na višem FSB-u počnu krepavati grafička kartica i/ili SATA diskovi. Sa ATi karticama (manje su osjetljive na visoku frekvenciju PCIe sabirnice) moguće je ostvariti i preko 255MHz-a za FSB, no sa NVIDIA karticama koje na sebi imaju HSI bridge čip maksimum je negdje oko 245MHz. SATA diskovi pak počnu raditi gluposti na oko 255MHz - u najboljem slučaju ploča ih neće ni vidjeti prilikom POST-a, a u najgorem će doći do korupcije podataka i kršenja Windows instalacije. Ovako nešto nije samo bitan podatak za overclockere već nam to sve govori da je vrlo teško za očekivati da će neki novi BIOS za sadašnje 915/925 ploče omogućiti podršku za već najavljene P4/1066FSB procesore. Za to će po svemu sudeći trebati 925XE čipset kojeg je Intel najavio ali još nije nabavljiv. Drugim riječima osobe koji sada kupe 915/925 sistem neće baš uživati u dugom vijeku platforme.
