Usporedni test 925X ploča

- Uvod -

Eto nas napokon i sa usporednim testom 925X ploča. Prvobitni plan je bio da ovaj test bude objavljen još u mjesecu rujnu, no nedostupnost 925X matičnih ploča je zeznulo stvar u potpunosti i odužilo cijelu priču toliko da nam se kosa diže na glavi. Kada smo radili usporedni test 915 ploča već je bilo očito da novi Intelovi čipseti predstavljaju problem za sve skoro proizvođače koji nisu Tier 1. No, nismo očekivali da će situacija sa 925X pločama biti još par puta gora! Tako smo uz puno muke uspjeli skupiti svega četiri 925X ploče - ASUS P5AD2, ABIT AA8-DuraMAX, SuperMicro P8SAA i Foxconn 925A01. Osim testa samih matičnih ploča napisali smo i (malo) duži uvod za koji mislimo da bi mogao biti zanimljiv većem broju čitatelja (vidjet ćete zašto).

Vjerovatno ćete se zapitati što je to toliko problematično sa 925X pločama... Pa tehnološki gledano, sa njima je sve u redu. Nažalost, nije sve u tome da li je jedan čipset OK ili ne, već tu postoji cijeli niz (ekonomskih) specifičnosti. Kao prvo, cijena 925X čipseta je osjetno viša nego što je slučaj sa 915 serijom. Kako je razlika u performansama između 925X i 915 ploča minimalna (kao što ćete vidjeti), a razlika u cijeni itekako postoji, jasno je da su proizvođači matičnih ploča itekako dobro razmislili da li im se isplati ulagati vrijeme i novac u neki proizvod koji se baš i neće dobro prodavati. Ograničeni resursi u kombinaciji s tim što Intel proizvođačima nije dao adekvatni programming guide za nove čipsete dovelo je do toga da su 925X ploče lansirali skoro isključivo Tier 1 proizvođači. Da stvar bude gora, nedugo nakon što smo mi na (engleskom) pisali o tome kako su 915 i 925X čipseti "posebna sorta" po pitanju overclockinga, Intel je obznanio da će lansirati 925XE čipset koji će podržati FSB od 1066MHz. Time je Intel jasno poslao poruku da će 925X kao njihov top čipset defatko biti vrlo kratkog vijeka, pogotovo što se tada launch 6xx serije P4 procesora očekivao krajem godine (kasnije je pomaknuto na 2005.). Zbog očekivanog ranijeg launcha 6xx serije, koja bi između ostalog trebala imati i FSB od 1066MHz, u datom trenutku je bilo teško predvidjeti da će za tada tek najavljeni 925XE postojati samo jedan procesor - P4 Extreme Edition 3.46GHz. Zbog svega toga je dosta proizvođača odustalo od 925X ploča i odlučila prijeći direktno na 925XE, pogotovo što je tehnološka razlika između ova dva čipseta izuzetno mala. Inače, 925XE nije baš primljen sa nekim oduševljenjem - jedan od najboljih komentara pročitali smo na Anandtechu - tamo su napisali da je 925XE "čipset napravljen za samo jedan procesor (P4EE 3.46GHz), a taj procesor nitko nikada neće kupiti".

Prodaja LGA775 procesora inače ide sasvim dobro, pogotovo ako uzmemo u obzir probleme sa pregrijavanjem top modela (550 i 560). Stvar je tu vrlo žalosna - samo promjena termalne paste na stock hladnjaku je dovoljna da natjerate svoj P4 550 ili 560 da počne radi throttling na default taktu. Ukoliko rabite nešto poput Artic Silvera, problema neće biti, no znamo da su takvi ljudi manjina. Intel se tu ogradio od odgovornosti na način da je na kutiju od procesora napisao da temperatura u kućištu ne smije preći 38C te da normalan rad procesora garantira samo u ETS (Enhanced Thermal Solution) ATX kućištima koje krasi fan duct i hrpa dodatnih rupa za bolju ventilaciju (i lakše skupljanje prašine). Fora je u tome što Intel ne radi direktno sa kupcima već to rade njegovi partneri koji bi trebali koristiti takva kućišta. Naglasak je tu na trebali jer Intel ni na koji način ne kontrolira da li je to stvarno tako. Ovakvo ponašanje je stvarno žalosno i samo pokazuje koliko Intel pati od egocentričnosti - bez ikakve grižnje savjesti su problem sa pregrijavanjem (za koji je samo i isključivo kriv Intel) prebacili na drugog i oprali ruke od svega. Intel valjda računa da će cijela stvar prestati biti aktualna kako će sadašnje serije procesora zamijeniti sa novim E-steppingom koji se manje grije. No, ni one se ne griju malo - da jse malo griju ove godine vidjeli bi P4 na 4GHz, a od toga ništa.

Eh da, ne treba zaboraviti još jednu stvar u cijeloj priči - dobra prodaja LGA775 procesora nije tu zbog PCI Expressa i 915/925 čipseta već zbog LGA775 ploča koje koriste 865PE čipset (i podržavaju AGP grafičke kartice). Sve u svemu, vrlo zeznuta situacija... No, ajmo napokon na 925X ploče!
