Prošle godine došlo je do daljnjeg poboljšanja u proizvodnom procesu pa je Intel prešao s 0.25 na 0,18 mikronske jezgre. Nova zvijezda je bila na pomolu. Konfiguracija je ostala ista, 128KB keša na brzini procesora, ali je zbog nove jezgre (Coppermine 128) bilo moguće podizati FSB s tvorničkih 66MHz do neslućenih granica (i ovaj tekst nastaje na Celeronu 566@1003). Pojedini primjerci rade čak i na 133 MHz FSB-a, dok je brzina od 100 MHz postala uobičajena za ovu seriju. S novom jezgrom dodani su i SSE instrukcije jer je jezgra ustvari u originalu P3 Coppermine s polovicom keša (procesori koji nisu prošli tvorničko testiranje i nisu se "kvalificirali" za PIII ligu) koja je tvornički onesposobljena. Procesori su imali tvorničku brzinu od 533-766 MHz.

Celeron 566 FC-PGA

Zbog tvorničkog FSB-a od samo 66MHz, Celeron je tokom vremena postojao sve sporiji i sporiji u odnosu na Pentium 3 Coppermine. Dosadašnji najbrži Celeron (766MHz), s množiteljem od 11,5X, ima veliku procesorsku snagu koja je neiskorištena zbog prespore sabirnice koja ne može na vrijeme doturiti potrebne podatke procesoru. Dodatan razlog tome je i spori keš koji ima manje vrijeme odaziva u odnosu na PIII.Taj keš je ustvari još sporiji od keša kojeg imaju PIII procesori jer je slabije kvalitete pa tako i slabijeg vremena odaziva. Što je slabije vrijeme odaziva keša to je i slabiji protok informacija kroz njega pa tako procesor u jednom trenutku više ne pronalazi potrebne podatke u kešu , već mora posezati u glavnu memoriju.
