Unlockanje Athlona

Nakon što ste unlockali procesor potrebno je matičnoj ploči reći da prestane koristiti onaj koji dolazi tvornički tj. po defaultu i da počne korisiti onaj koji Vama paše. Npr., ako imate Athlon 1000MHz (10x100MHz) sada ga možete probati overclockati na 1100MHz (11x100MHz). Naravno, da bi taj isti procesor radio kako treba na 1100MHz, možda će biti potrebno dići voltažu na kojoj radi (vcore). To možete učiniti iz BIOS-a kod većine ploča. Ako pak imate KT133A ili AMD-760 ploču koja ima opciju mijenjanja množitelja onda ćete pak možda čak htjeti smanjiti množitelj da bi Vam procesor umjesto na 10x100MHz radio na 7.5x133MHz. Takvim povećanjem FSB-a (sabirnice) ćete doći do poboljšanja u performansama bez da stvarno overclockate svoj procesor. Nažalost, mijenjanje procesora koji tvornički radi na npr. 10x100 na 7.5x133 na KT133A ploči ne mora uroditi plodom. Iako se radi o istoj frekvenciji, procesor neće niti POST-ati. Zašto? Zato što je KT133A chipset napravljen tako da kad radi prvu inicijalizaciju to radi na tvorničkom množitelju, tj. u ovom slučaju na 10. Neki proizvođači (točnije MSI, EPoX i Iwill) imaju jumpere na svojim pločama koji određuju rad FSB-a - 100 ili 133MHz. Ako stavimo na 133MHz onda će jedna, npr. Iwill KK266 ploča, probati probuditi procesor (koji tvornički radi na 10x100MHz) na 10x133 = 1330MHz! Na tako visokoj frekvenciji postoji mogućnost da procesor uopće ne želi niti POST-ati, a ako je tako onda BIOS neće moći promijeniti na množitelj koji mi želimo, npr. 7.5. ASUS i ABIT bili su pametniji pa se na njihovim pločama prvobitna inicijalizacija uvijek vrši na 100MHz, tako da ovakvih problema nema. Ukoliko niste vlasnik ASUS A7V133 ili ABIT KT7A ploče onda je jedini način da riješite stvar tako da promijenite default množitelja procesora ili da nabavite drugi procesor (što ne garantira upjeh jer ni on ne mora POST-ati na overclcokanoj frekvenciji - jedino nabavka "C" Athlona koji tvornički radi na 133MHz DDR je sigurno rješenje). Mijenjanje default množitelja često zahtijeva i rezanje mostova tako da takva operacija nije baš ugodna, a zahtijeva i dobar alat. Athlon 1000MHz po defaultu u BIOS-u

Isti procesor sada radi na 9x133MHz (1200MHz) - smanjili smo Multiplier Factor s 10 na 9, digli CPU FSB Clock s 100 na 133MHz, povećali Core Voltage s 1.750V na 1.800V i povećali I/O s 3.40V na 3.50V

Za ove slike korištena je ABIT KT7A ploča tako da će to kod Vas vjerovatno izgledati nešto drugačije (ukoliko isto nemate KT7A ploču). I to je to! Naravno, treba imati na umu da se svi procesori ne overclokaju isto - ni po maksimalnom iznosu niti po voltaži (vcore). No, ne smijemo zaboraviti na hlađenje - dobar hladnjak pri overclockingu je obavezan.
