Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego - trkač na duge staze

- Uvod -

Nakon što smo testirali A64 Venice 3800+ i A64 Toledo 4800+ X2, došao je red i na treći po redu AMD-ov procesor zasnovan na E reviziji jezgre. San Diego jezgra nimalo se ne razlikuje od Venica osim u količini drugostupanjskog cachea, San Diego posjeduje 1024 kB ,a Venice 512 kB. Kao i Venice, jezgra San Diego se proizvodi 90-nanometarskim SSDOI ( Strained Silicon Directly on Insulator ) proizvodnim procesom. Tehnologiju "rastezanja" silicija AMD je zajednički razvio s IBM-om, a tehnologija je nazvana Dual Stress Liner.

Sjetimo se da je AMD započeo 90-nanometarski proizvodni proces s jezgrom Winchester kojoj je maksimalni tvornički takt bio 2.2 GHz (model 3500+ ). Tada je AMD koristio samo SOI ( Silicon on Insulator ) tehnologiju koja ne omogućava toliko visoke radne taktove kao SSDOI. Sve ovo znači da se možemo nadati prilično dobrom overclockiranju San Diego baziranih Athlona. Još jedna novina naspram starih Winchestera je poboljšani memorijski kontroler - sada je moguće upariti četiri dvostrana memorijska modula koji će raditi na brzini od 400 MHz DDR s Command Rateom 2T. Kod Winchestera bi brzina memorije u ovakvoj konfiguraciji bila smanjena na 333 MHz.

CPU-Z je bez problema prepoznao novu jezgru

Na E reviziju jezgre AMD je proširio set SIMD instrukcija dodajući podršku za SSE3 instrukcije što bi trebalo rezultirati povećanjem performansi u aplikacijama koje ih rabe. Iz slike vidimo da je matična ploča odredila napon od 1,392 volta što je praktički 1,4 volta - kako navode i specifikacije.
