Athlon 64 San Diego usporedili smo s njegovim starijim bratom Winchesterom, tvornički taktovi procesora su jednaki no San Diego je "bogatiji" za 512 kB L2 cache memorije. Kod našeg testnog sistema nema ništa novog, dok je kod softverskog dijela ubačen SuperPi v 1.4 koja ima mogućnost prikaza rezultata u stotinkama.

Nažalost, kod testiranja A64 San Diega naišli smo na probleme. Radi se o sljedećem - kod pokušaja overclockiranja San Diega i memorije, naš sistem nije htio bootati Windowse kad bi takt memorije bio postavljen na 590 ili više megaherca (s Winchesterom, memorija je vrtila Prime stabilno dobrano iznad 600 MHz) . Pokušali smo sa šest različitih biosa i promjenili mali milion postavki, ali ništa. Najvjerojatnije je riječ o problemu s memorijskim kontrolerom u San Diegu (što zvuči pomalo nerealno pošto je memorijski kontroler poboljšan kod E revizije) ili se naš San Diego i ploča baš ne vole previše. Kako god bilo, opet nemamo sreće kod "ocanja" Athlona. Kod tvorničkih taktova San Diega i Winchestera koristili smo normalne postavke memorije tj. ona je radila na tvornički deklariranim postavkam 2-2-2-5@400 MHz. Biti će zanimljivo vidjeti kakve ćemo memorijske rezultate dobivati na defaultnim postavkama, pogotovo nakon spomenutih problema s memorijskim kontrolerom.

Overclockiranje

San Diego na maksimalnom radnom taktu

Maksimalni radni takt koji smo uspjeli izvući iz novog procesora bio je 2760 MHz (276x10) s naponom od 1,632 volta, dok je memorija kucala na 552 MHz pri postavkama 2.5-3-3-7 na 2,83 volta. Dodatno povećanje napona na procesoru nije donijelo dodatne megaherce, stoga možemo reći da smo i više očekivali od San Diega iako ni ovaj rezultat (povećanje od 560 MHz) nije loš. Dapače, ovo je vrlo blizu radnom taktu FX-a57 koji je četiri puta skuplji od našeg San Diega.

Idemo na zagrijavanje. Kad je kolega Arunović zadnji put testirao Venica, nije pri ruci imao nekog Winchestera da ih usporedi u zagrijavanju, no zato će to sada biti napravljeno sa San Diegom. Zagrijavanje je mjereno dok je sobna tempertura iznosila ugodnih 22 stupnja celzija . Test smo radili tako da smo zavrtili Prime95 – "In place large FFT s-maximum heat" test i nakon dvadesetak minuta očitali temperaturu. Procesori su hlađeni Thermalrightovim XP-120 hladnjakom, a brzina okretaja 120-milimetarskog ventilatora bila je 1500rpmi kod ocanog San Diega, dok je kod tvorničkih taktova iznosila malenih 700 okretaja u minuti. Samo jedna napomena - maksimalan broj okretaja Enermaxovog ventilatora je 2300, no ovakvu brzinu nije bilo potrebno koristiti u testu.

Kao što možemo vidjeti iz grafa, oba procesora su pod idle uvjetima vrlo hladni, a temperatura im iznosi 32 °C. Kod ocanog San Diega idle temperatura je nešto viša - 34 °C. Pod opterećenjem Winchester je hladniji od San Diega za jedan stupanj, to potvrđuje priče naših vanjskih kolega da se Winchesteri malo manje zagrijavaju, no ipak je riječ o samo jednom stupnju. Temperatura overclockiranog San Diega pod opterećenjem iznosi 47 °C, što s obzirom na visoki takt i napon uopće nije mnogo. Sve u svemu, s novom E revizijom jegre AMD je uspio zadržati nisko zagrijavanje, a ostvariti svoj cilj - povišenje radnog takta.
