Zalman VF700 Al-Cu - temperaturni penicilin

S obzirom na reputaciju Zalmanovih rješenja, VF700 smo odlučili testirati na grafičkoj kartici koju nije baš tako lako ohladiti - Radeonu X850XT PE. Kartica na sebi tvornički ima ugrađen relativno bučan turbinski hladnjak koji pokriva GPU i memoriju. Koliko je ovaj hladnjak efikasan u odnosu na Zalmanovo rješenje, provjerit ćemo kasnije u testovima, a sad pogledajmo kako izgleda instalacija.

Jadni mali Rade niti ne sluti što mu se sprema :)

Prva stvar koju moramo napraviti je skinuti stari, tvornički hladnjak s naše kartice. Malo zezancije s odvijačem i ovaj je korak vrlo brzo završen. Nakon toga treba očistiti površinu GPU-a i memorijskih čipova od stare termalne paste. Za to nam može poslužiti kuhinjski papirnati ubrus ili papirnati rupčić...ili WC papir. Sve u svemu, treba vam nešto mekano i papirnato. :)

Cijeli proces instalacije hladnjaka na grafičku karticu objašnjen je vrlo dobro u priručniku koji je isporučen u paketu. Doduše, nije baš totalno jednostavan tako da je za tumačenje ipak potrebno imati nešto tehničkog iskustva.

Prvo valja skinuti stari hladnjak

Sve u svemu, prvi korak je instalacija pasivnih hladnjaka na memorijske čipove. Maleni hladnjaci su napravljeni od aluminija i dizajnirani vrlo inventivno - s "bodljama" koje su postavljene pod različitim kutevima, a ne samo okomito u vis. Ovakav dizajn obećaje nešto bolju disipaciju topline budući da je ukupna disipativna površina hladnjaka veća.

Maleni se hladnjaci na površinu čipova ljepe pomoću ljepljive termovodljive mase koja je već nanesena na bazu hladnjaka, a zaštićena masnim papirom. Pri ugradnji hladnjaka ne valja mnogo komplicirati - poravnajte rub hladnjaka s rubom čipa i utisnite hladnjak na čip. Termovodljiva masa nije jako ljepljiva tako da valja pripaziti s karticom dok je ne ugradimo u računalo. Hladnjaci se na memoriju adekvatno fiksiraju tek uz uporabe topline - u ovom slučaju pri radu grafičke kartice.

...a onda staviti pasivce na memoriju

Nakon instalacije pasivaca treba ugraditi i hladnjak na GPU. Premda je Zalman predvidio da se na površinu GPU-a stavi priložena silikonska pasta, mi smo je zamijenili s poznatim Artic Silverom V. Hladnjak se na na GPU fiskira pomoću vijaka koji prolaze kroz rupe oko procesora. Metalni dijelovi se od tiskane pločice grafičke kartice odvojeni s gumenim šajbicama tako da opasnosti za grafičku karticu nema.

Na kraju dobro obavljenog posla

Sve u svemu, Zalman VF700 Al-Cu je odlično "sjeo" na našeg Radeta. Na gornjoj slici je moguće vidjeti razdjelnik s kojim standardni molex konektorom dijelimo na četiri standardna 3-pinska konektora za napajanje ventilatora. Dva od njih rade na naponu od 12V, a ostala dva na naponu od 5V. Shodno tome, kad ventilator spojimo na konektor s nižim naponom, hladnjak je tiši (brzina ~ 1350RPM), a kad ga spojimo na konektor s višim naponom, onda je bučniji, no ima bolje performanse.

Ovako riješena regulacija brzine ventilatora je dvosjekli mač. Premda je relativno nepraktična s obzirom na to da moramo otvarati kućište računala kako bi hladnjak prebacili iz jednog u drugi mod, sviđa nam se zbog toga što je na razdjelnik moguće spojiti i druge ventilatore u računalu. U krajnju liniju, vjerujemo da će većina korisnika postaviti hladnjak na višu ili manju brzinu, zavisno o potrebi, te da ga nakon toga više neće dirati osim zbog čišćenja.
