SMPS handbook ili što su to napajanja?

Nevjerovatan hype digao se praktički simultano s pojavom "brand" napajanja oko "nečega sto se zove PFC". PFC odnosno power factor correction je tehnika spriječavanja neželjenih efekata neparnih harmoničkih titraja, kao bi uređaj podlegao određenim standardima, zadatim IEC 1000-3-2 standardom u ovisnosti o klasi. Također, valja razlikovati neke pojmove, tj. za početak definirati power factor, koji je odnos stvarne i prividne snage. Za čisti sinusoidalni signal power factor iznosi cos(fi). PFC je upravo zadužen za regulaciju ovih matematičkih relacija. Postoji nekoliko načina za primjenu PFC-a. Prvi od njih ne iziskuje nikakve dodatne komponente (nota bene, to _nije_ pasivni PFC, o njemu nešto kasnije), a PFC se postiže smanjivanjem izlaznog kapaciteta. Kada se to učini, ripple izlaznog napona se poveća i provodni interval ispravljačke diode se produžuje, što je pogodno za visokopulsirajuće istosmjerne izvore kakvi se koriste, primjerice, u ručnim alatima. Ovakav tip PFC-a nije primjenjiv u SMPS-u.

Pasivni PFC koristi dodatne pasivne komponente, a jedna od najjednostavnijih metoda je dodavanje zavojnice na izmjenični dio diodnog mosta odnosno serijski s izvorom napona. Ova metoda, ostajući u okvirima pasivnog PFC-a, dodatno se može proširiti kombiniranjem s low-pass ulaznim i izlaznim filterima ili s rezonantnim mrežama koji atenuiraju (smanjuju) harmonike. Također, postoje izvedbe s tzv. harmoničkim klopkama, odnosno serijskim rezonantnim mrežama spojenim u paralelu koje "hvataju" harmonike i atenuiraju ih. Postoji još nekoliko izvedbi pasivnog PFC-a, no one ovise o specifičnim potrebama. Pasivni PFC, iako se na prvi pogled ne čini tako, ima određene prednosti, kao što su jednostavnost izvedbe, pouzdanost i robustnost, neosjetljivost na šum i izboje, a zbog prirode koncepta na kojem radi, ne generira visokofrekventne EMI smetnje te je otporan na visokofrekventne switching gubitke. Naravno, postoje i loše strane pasivnog PFC-a kao što su slabi dinamički odazivi, nedostatak regulacije napona i oblika ako ulazna struja ovisi o opterećenju i slično. Iako su harmonici umanjeni, izvedbe s ovakvim komponentama nerijetko imaju fazni pomak koji smanjuje PFC. Također, rezonantni krugovi jesu osjetljivi na frekvenciju te iako serijska rezonancija smanjuje specificirane harmonike, njihov paralelni spoj može pojačati druge. Ako postoji, pasivni PFC će najčešće biti "gost" u napajanjima do 200W. Za veća opterećenja, tu je, dakako, Mr. Mus^H^H^H^H^H^H^H... aktivni PFC, dakako.

Aktivni PFC se dijeli na visoko i nisko frekvencijski PFC, s time da se visokofrekvencijski dalje dijeli na još tipova. Niskofrekventni PFC se koristi dosta rijetko zbog svojih reaktivnih elemenata koji su fizički veliki te je regulacija izlaznog napona vremenski spora. Najčešće izvedbe su s tiristorima, mada postoje i izvedbe sa switcherima. PFC koji se danas koristi u većini napajanja je visokofrekventni PFC. Ovakav PFC ima tri osnovne izvedbe, buck (step-down), boost (step-up) i buck-boost. Buck-boost nam je najpogodniji za to i on je kao takav upravo razlog zašto više nemate 220/110V preklopke na novim napajanjima, drugim riječima, vas će silikonski ljubimac raditi jednako dobro u New Yorku kao i u Sv. Petru u šumi.

Dakle, naš buck-boost konverter nam može raditi kao step-down ili step-up konverter što nam daje slobodu pri biranju ulaznog napona. Oni upoznatiji u tematiku bi mogli graknuti kako buck-boost konverter invertira signal, no tome se također moze doskočiti, no trenutno nije tema. U svakom slučaju, ovo bi manje više okončalo čitavu famu oko PFC-a kao takvog, pa možemo lagano na slijedeću temu...
