- Uvod -
Dugo je vremena prošlo od kada u našem labu nismo ugostili matične ploče namijenjene Intelovim procesorima, no bilo je vrijeme i da se ova situacija promjeni. Imali smo prilike isprobati dvije matične ploče bazirane na nVidijinom nForce4 SLI čipsetu za Intelove procesore.

Što se tiče matičnih ploča koje smo testirali, riječ je o MSI-jevoj i Epoxovoj implementaciji čipseta nForce4 SLI Intel Edition. Ruku srce, radi se o prilično starim pločama, no pozitivna strana toga je što su im BIOS-i već pokrpani. Obje ploče nazivno podržavaju Intelove LGA775 procesore sa sabirnicom na 533, 800 i 1066 MHz, što će reći novije Pentiume i Celerone. Što se tiče podrške za nadolazeće Conroe procesore koji će rabiti jednako fizičko pakiranje kao i stariji Intelovi procesori, podrške nema. Naime, Intelova vrlo profitabilna politika je da svaki novi procesor odnosno generaciju procesora izda zajedno s novom serijom vlastitih čipseta. Ako želite novi procesor, kupite novu matičnu ploču – jednostavan račun.

S pločama koje smo ovaj put isprobali možda to čak i nije toliki problem s obzirom da se radi o relativno starim modelima, no pravo veselje imaju kupci skupih ploča baziranih na i975X čipsetu koji sam po sebi ne garantira mogućnost nadogradnje na Conroe. Naime, premda čipset navodno podržava procesor, gotovo sve postojeće i975X ploče nemaju sklop za napajanje procesora koji odgovara Conroeu.

No vratimo se mi pločama koje su danas pod okom sokolovim. Prije nego što ih detaljno pregledamo, recimo riječ-dvije o čipsetu na kojem su bazirane. Riječ je o prvom nVidijinom čipsetu za Intelove procesore – čipsetu nForce4 SLI Intel Edition, koji je uparen sa southbridgeom MCP04. Čipset, kako mu ime kaže, nudi dva utora za grafičke kartice te standardne điđe kao i svaki drugi nForce4 – nativni gigabitni mrežni kontroler s hardverskim firewallom, četiri SATA2 i dva IDE kanala s podrškom za RAID (0, 1, 0+1 i softverski 5), integrirani zvuk te podršku za DDR2 memoriju na 400, 533 i 667 MHz.

Jedina konkretna mana ovog čipset u odnosu na novija nVidijina riješenja je nedostatak podrške za Intelov HD Audio. PCI-E x16 utori s punom propusnošću koje nalazimo na novijim SLI čipsetima su više marketinška parola nego realna beneficija (osjetni pomak u performansama je tu samo ako imamo softversko SLI polje koje ne radi preko uobičajenog konektora).
