Kao i u našem prošlom testu napajanja, i ovaj put smo performanse napajanja mjerili uz pomoć high-end konfiguracije. High-end konfiguracija u ovom je slučaju bila ploča bazirana na Intelovom P965 čipsetu, Core 2 Extreme X6800 procesor kojem smo digli množitelj pa je radio na 3,2 GHz, 3 GB memorije (4 pločice), dva SATA diska, optički pogon, PCI zvučna kartica, PCI WLAN kartica i na kraju, premda i ne najmanje važan, Radeon HD 2900 XT.

Na računalo je instaliran Windows Vista Ultimate zajedno s odgovarajućim driverima te dvije aplikacija s kojima smo opteretili sistem - rthdribl v1.2 DX9 demo s kojim smo opteretili grafički sistem računala te Stress Prime 2004 Orthos Edition s kojim smo opteretili procesor i memoriju. Glavna ideja je bila istovremeno opteretiti komponente koje troše najviše energije u računalu te pomoću unimetra izmjeriti stabilnost i ponašanje 12-voltnog i 5-voltnog voda napajanja. Idealno bi bilo mjeriti i 3,3-voltni vod, no za mjerenje napona na ovom vodu nije tako lako izvesti budući da se koristi isključivo za napajanje matične ploče (ATX konektor) i SATA uređaja. ATX konektoru nismo mogli pristupiti zato što je priključen na ploču, a kontakti na SATA konektorima nisu dovoljno veliki da bi im mogli pristupiti sa sondama unimetra.

Također smo smo mjerili ukupnu potrošnju računala s referentnim Coolermasterovim i testiranim Seasonicovim napajanjem. Za dobivanje ovog podatka poslužio nam je obični mjerač potrošnje kojeg je moguće kupiti u većim trgovinama alatom. Uređaj smo podesili da pamti vršne vrijednosti koje smo unosili u tablicu. Potrošnja bez opterećenja mjerena je tako da smo računalo ostavili na miru 20-ak minuta (opcije za štednju energije smo isključili) te potom očitali vrijednost s instrumenta. Nakon toga bi uključili Stress Prime 2004 i rthdribl, pa nakon 20-ak minuta ponovo očitali vršnu vrijednost s instrumenta. Premda daleko od preciznog, ovakvo nam mjerenje može dati uvid u efikasnost napajanja budući da manje efikasno napajanje troši više energije za isti posao.

Naša je konfiguracija za vrijeme mirovanja "povukla" oko 185 vata iz utičnice. Ova brojka dakako varira budući da čak i bez korisnikove intervencije opterećenje komponenti malo varira. Prema dobivenim brojkama, Seasonicovo napajanje je nešto efikasnije od Coolermasterovog pri niskom opterećenju (oko 30% posto od maksimalnog). Situacija se malo mijenja s prelaskom na puno opterećenje. Konfiguracija je na ovaj način sposobna skoro konstantno "sisati" 300-tinjak vata iz utičnice što je opet relativno malo ako uzmemo u obzir nominalnu snagu testiranih napajanja. U ovom načinu rada Coolermaster se pokazao za nijansu efikasniji.

U idealnom slučaju napajanje bi na 5-voltnom vodu trebalo imati napon od 5 volta odnosno napon od 12 volta na 12-voltnom vodu. Realne brojke su dakako mnogo drugačije, no prema ATX specifikaciji devijacija u odnosu na nominalne vrijednosti ne bi smjela biti veća od 5%. Kad je riječ o 5-voltnom vodu, to znači da njegov napon u praksi ne bi smio biti manji od 4.75 volti odnosno viši od 5.25 volti. Napon 12-voltnog voda ne bi pak smio biti manji od 11,4 volta odnosno viši od 12,6 volta. Što su izmjerene vrijednosti bliže nominalnima, to je napajanje bolje. Seasonic pak tvrdi da S12Energy+550 na 12-voltnom vodu ima toleranciju od 3% što bi trebalo rezultirati još manjim oscilacijama.

Rezultati mjerenja su zadivljujući. Seasonicovo napajanje je toliko dobro da u oba slučaja nudi jednak napon i na 5-voltnoj i 12-voltnoj liniji. Devijacija na 5-voltnoj liniji je zaista minimalna, a iznosti pišljivih 0.01 volta što je 0.2% u odnosu na teoretski idealnu vrijednost. Vrijednosti na 12-voltnom vodu su skoro jednako dobre gdje je deviacija 0.08 volta odnosno 0.66% u odnosu na idealnu vrijednost. Ovakvo dobri rezultati zaista se rijetko susreću tako da bez imalo grižnje savjesti možemo reći da je Seasonic S12Energy+550 jedno od najboljih, ako ne i najbolje napajanje koje smo imali prilike testirati.

Kad je riječ o razini buke, od Seasonicovog modela očekivali smo također jako puno, a naša su očekivanja u potpunosti ispunjena. Na skali od 0 do 10, s tim da "0" predstavlja idealno nečujno napajanje, a "10" vrlo bučno napajanje, Seasonicov model pri niskom opterećenju dobija ocjenu 1, a pri opterećenju 2. Buka bi vjerojatno bila viša da smo napajanje opteretili sa snažnijim komponentama, no držimo da je ovo naše opterećenje prilično reprezentativno s obzirom na snagu i mogućnosti računala kojima se mogu podičiti hrvatski korisnici.
