Oprema MSI-jeve ploče nadilazi mogućnosti koje nudi isključivo čipset na kojem je ploča bazirana. Kao i na svim novijim pločama s Intelovim čipsetom, tu je odvojeni SATA/IDE kontroler koji sa southbridgeom komunicira preko PCI-E sabirnice. Riječ je o Marvellovom kontroleru koji nudi jedan dodatni SATA konektor je jedan IDE kanala na koji je moguće paralelno spojiti maksimalno dva uređaja. Premda dosta često proizvođači matičnih ploča iskorištavaju ovaj dodatni SATA konektor za implementaciju eSATA funkcije, to se nije dogodilo na ovoj MSI-jevoj matičnoj ploči, pa je dodatni SATA konektor smješten blizu četiri SATA konektora koje nudi Intelov ICH9 southbridge. S obzirom da je riječ o ICH9 verziji čipa, ova ploča ne nudi podršku za RAID što većini korisnika neće smetati, no oni kojima ova funkcija treba će biti prisiljeni kupiti neku drugu ploču.

Još jedan ekstra feature koji ova ploča nudi u odnosu na vanilla mogućnosti Intelovog čipseta je podrška za Firewire putem VIA-inog kontrolera VT6308. Jedan Firewire konektor smješten je na backplateu pločel, a drugi je moguće iskoristiti pomoću headera na samoj ploči. Bracket za iskorištavanje ovog headera nije isporučen uz ploču.

S pregledom layouta krećemo kao i obično od vrha prema dnu ploče. Područje oko procesora je relativno čisto, no moglo je biti i bolje da zbog štednje nisu korišteni klasični elektrolitski konendatori koji strše oko utora za procesor. Ipak, dosta su odmaknuti od socketa tako da neće smetati pri ugradnji hladnjaka. Eventualno ćete se malo pomućiti pri uštekavanju odnosno vađenju dodatnog 4-pinskog P4 konektora za napajanje koji je smješten dosta blizu jednom od većih kondezatora.

Memorijski utori dovoljno su razmaknuti od utora za procesor i grafičku karticu, no MSI ih je dosta smušeno označio bojama. Naime svi su utori različite boje što će i najiskusnije korisnike natjerati da pogledaju priručnik. S obzirom da DDR2 i DDR3 utori nisu fizički jednaki, sumnjamo da će se itko zeznuti pri instalaciji memorije i pokušati ugurati DDR2 memoriju u DDR3 utori, ili obratno. Ipak, cijela bi stvar bila manje komplicirana da su utori jednakog tipa označeni jednakom bojom. Pokraj memorije smješten je glavni ATX konektor, a blizu njega i jedini IDE kanal kojeg nudi ova ploča. Ovo su dobre pozicije za ovakvu vrstu utora, no voljeli bismo da ovi utori nisu složeni tako da se preklapaju. Naravno, priču o memorijskim utorima ne možemo završiti bez komentara kombiniranja različitih tipova memorije na jednoj ploči. Ako se nas pita to je loša ideja zato što se korisnika zapravo ograničava mogućnost nadogradnje memorije. Već je tisuću puta dokazano i rečeno da količina, a ne brzina memorije radi razliku u performansama aplikacija.

Pregled gornjeg dijela ploče završit ćemo s hladnjakom na čipsetu. Riječ je o jednostavnom aluminijskom hladnjaku većih dimenzija, zapravo klasičnih dimenzija ako imamo na umu novije ploče. S obzirom da se Intelovi čipseti ne griju niti upola toliko kao NVIDIA-ini, obični pasivac nije loš izbor. Ipak, moguće je da bi s kvalitetnijim hlađenjem ploča mogla "povući" više kad je riječ o overclockanju.

Stražnja pločica s konektorima nije ništa posebno. Vidimo standardnu ponudu konektora na koje smo navikli, uključujući stare COM i LPT konektore koje malo tko danas koristi. Zanimljivo je da nema digitalnih izlaza zvučne kartice što bi moglo zasmetati nekim korisnicima.

ICH9 southbridge je također hlađen malenim aluminijskim pasivnim hladnjakom. Tik do njega vidimo pet SATA konektora od kojih četiri pripadaju ICH9 čipu, a jedan odvojenom Marvellovom kontroleru (koji se, usputno rečeno, nalazi između tog odvojenog SATA konektora i ATX konektora). Tik do SATA konektora vidimo uredno poredane USB headere, njih čak četiri koji ukupno nude osam konektora. Nažalost, od ta četiri USB headera najveći broj korisnika će iskoristiti samo jedan kako bi na njega priključili USB konektore s prednje strane kućišta. Da bi iskoristili ostale konektore treba nam USB bracket koji nije isporučen s matičnom pločom.

Svi oni koji vole prčkati po BIOS-u i overclockati znaju koliko je pri takvoj raboti često potrebno resetirati postavke BIOS-a. To se na većini matičnih ploča radi pomoću jumpera smještenog tik do baterije koja osigurava postavke spremljene u CMOS-u (premještanjem kapice na jumperu se ujedno isključuje dovod energije CMOS-u, pa su postavke izbrisane odnosno resetirane). Ovaj jumper je na MSI-jevoj ploči smješten na jako loše mjesto, tik do PCI-E x1 utora. Drugim riječima, jako mu je teško pristupiti, pogotovo ako imate grafičku karticu s debljim hladnjakom i/ili recimo koju PCI karticu.

Još jedna loša odluka pri dizajniranju ploče je svakako pozicija floppy konektora koji je smješten ispod PCI utora. Premda danas sve manje ljudi rabi floppy pogon (ja ga recimo nemam na svojem vlastitom računalu), činjenica je da nekim ovaj uređaj i dalje treba, pa nije u redu da se takve korisnike uz pomoć šlampavog dizajna hendikepira.
