Platforma za testiranje OCZ-ove memorije bila je EVGA-ina matična ploča bazirana na nForce 680i LT SLI čipsetu. Nažalost u labu nemamo punokrvni nForce 680i SLI čipset, no i LT varijanta odrađuje posao sasvim dobro ako izuzmemo činjenicu da ne podržava automatsko konfiguriranje SLI Ready memorije takta većeg od 800 MHz. EVGA-ina ploča se inače pokazala kao izuzetno dobar alat za sve vrste overclockanja jer ima vrlo kvalitetan BIOS koji nudi sve potrebne opcije za modifikaciju takta, latencija i napona. Uz to, podržano je spremanje postavki u profile. Na kraju i vjerojatno najfascinantnije u cijeloj priči je što nas ova ploča NIKAD nije prisilila na ručno resetiranje CMOS-a već je svaki put to obavljeno automatski kada računalo ne bi odradilo POST.

Provjeravanje mogućnosti G.SKILL-ove memorije krenulo je s traženjem minimalnih latencija na standardnom radnom taktu od 800 MHz. Uz prilično niskih 1.9 volta memorija je radila na CAS 4 uz Command Rate 1T što je pohvalno. Probali smo forsirati i CAS 3, no pokazalo se da je memoriji za ovakve postavke potreban vrlo visok napon. Naime, što smo više dizali napon to je sistem više dobivao na stabilnosti tako da smo na 2.4 volta uspjeli svaki put bootati u Windowse, no Prime 95 bi se rušio. Da smo memoriju opremili kakvim aktivnim hlađenjem i dali joj recimo 2.6 volta, vjerujemo da bi bilo moguće postići stabilan rad i na ovako agresivnim latencijama.

Sljedeći korak je bilo pronalaženje maksimalnog radnog takta uz zadržavanje CAS 4 i Command Rate 1T. Tu se G.SKILL-ova memorija nije pokazala dobro - čim bi, makar i mrvicu, prešli takt od 800 MHz, sistem bi postao nestabilan. Ako se sjećate, u istom ovakvom testu OCZ-ova PC2-8500 Platinum memorija uspjela je doseći 930 MHz.

Odricanje od Command Rate 1T postavke odnosno prelazak na Command Rate 2T rezultiralo je otvaranjem frekvencijskog potencijala, pa je memorija uz napon od 2.2 volta uspjela dostići takt od 1060 MHz. Uz iste ovakve postavke OCZ-ov kit nije uspio prijeći 1000 MHz - ostao je zacementiran na 970 MHz. Drugim riječima, ovdje G.SKILL bilježi prednost.

Na kraju smo zaboravili na forsiranje agresivnih latencija, postavili memoriju na vrijednosti definirane tvorničkim specifikacijama te smo krenuli u sirovo forsiranje takta uz povećavanje napona do maksimalnih 2.4 volta koliko podržava proizvođač. Plafon smo udarili na 1155 MHz što je jako dobro. OCZ-ova memorija koju smo posljednju imali prilike testirati je "stala" na 1140 MHz tako da je i ovdje G.SKILL u maloj prednosti.

Uzgred rečeno, memorija je overclockana paralelno s FSB-om. Jedino smo procesoru smanjivali množitelj kako bi ga izbacili iz jednadžbe u kontekstu overclockanja.
