AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition - napokon B3

- Uvod i opis -
Iz AMD-a nam je na test stigla B3 revizija njihovog nativnog Quad-Core Phenom procesora. Nakon poznatih problema koji su pratili ranije revizije AMD je konačno izdao dugo najavljivanu B3 reviziju koja ih ispravlja te uz to donosi i nešto više radne taktove. Iako već i vrapci na granama znaju za problem koji je pratio procesore ranijih revizija Barcelona jezgri ipak ćemo ponoviti o čemu se radilo. Dakle, Phenomi i Opteroni su imali grešku koja je mogla uzrokovati pad ili nestabilnost operativnog sistema u određenim situacijama. Greška se očitovala u procesorovom TLB-u (translation lookaside buffer-u) i L3 priručnoj memoriji. I premda desktop korisnici i nisu to previše osjećali, u serverskom okruženju je to predstavljalo veliki problem pa je AMD zaustavio isporuku Opterona korisnicima. Sa isporukom desktop procesora su nastavili i pokušali riješiti problem putem BIOS updatea no to je često imalo lošeg utjecaja na preformanse samog procesora, pa korisnici radije nisu koristili tu zakrpu.

Sada su svi problemi vezani uz TLB erratu riješeni na nivou silicija i pred nama su B3 procesori koji trebaju vratiti ugled i prodajne rezultate AMD-u. Model koji nam je stigao na test nosi ime 9850 Black Edition, proizvodi se u 65nm proizvodnom procesu, ima 125W TDP, radi na 2.5GHz te ima otključan množitelj što je ideal svih overclockera. Uz njega je AMD predstavio i ostale B3 procesore tj. X4 9100e (65W), 9550 (95W), 9650 (95W) i 9750 (95W i 125W) modele koji rade na 1.8, 2.2, 2.3 i 2.4GHz. Kako vidimo AMD je zbog kupaca vratio oznaku X4 (broj jezgri), a B3 revizije će te najlakše prepoznati po xx50 oznaci.

Naš testni 9850 BE osim što ima otključan množitelj razlikuje se po još jednom detalju od svoje slabije braće. Radi na HTT sabrinici od 2GHz, dok ostali rade na 1.8GHz (sa izuzetkom 9100e modela koji radi na 1.6GHz sabirnici). Ovo je vrlo bitno jer takt northbridge-a određuje i brzinu L3 priručne memorije, pa bi i preformanse trebale biti nešto više. Kada smo kod L3 memorije, nje ima ukupno 2MB te se dijeli među jezgrama. L1 i L2 priručne memorije su drugačije izvedene i svaka jezgra ima svoj "cache". L1 memorije ima 4x 128kb (tj. 4x 64kb instrukcijske i 4x 64kb podatkovne), a L2 podatkovne 4x 512kb.

Kao što znamo Phenomi imaju integrirani 128-bitni memorijski kontroler koji radi na brzinama do 2GHz (Dual Dynamic Power Management) te podržava DDR2 memoriju brzina do 1066MHz. Podržavaju i HyperTransport 3.0 sabirnicu koja je konfigurirana kao jedan 16-bitni/16-bitni link brzine do 4000MHz u full duplex-u. Procesori su AM2+ kompatibilni, imaju 940 pinova a proizvode se u organskom micro-PGA pakiranju, te silaze sa proizvodnoh traka Dresdenskog FAB-a 36. Proizvodni proces je 65nm, a broj tranzistora je otprilike 450 milijuna. Radni napon im je između 1.1 i 1.25V dok je maksimalni TDP 125W. Testni 9850 BE kako smo već rekli defaultno radi na 2.5GHz (12.5x 200MHz) pri naponu 1.25V te ima 125W TDP. Budućnost će nam donijeti Phenome napravljene na 45nm procesu koji je predstavljen na ovogodišnjem CeBIT-u. On će Phenomima između ostalog donijeti i DDR3 podršku, te nadamo se više taktove.
