Kako je raspored rupa kojima se Alpha pričvršćuje na ploču različit kod Intel-a i AMD-a, nije bilo nikakve mogućnosti za montažu. Sljedeća misao je bila da se urežu nove rupe u samoj Alphi. Problem bi onda bio da bi se moralo otkinuti nekih 3-5 nožica za svaku rupu što bi smanjilo njihov broj za ukupno 12-20, a i to se sigurno ne bi svidjelo HGSpot-u. Ništa od toga. Tu dolazimo do MC-a kojeg smo ranije spominjali. Pokušali smo napraviti paralelu s montažom MC-a montiranog na Socket478 i Alphe. Kako MC koristi adapter pločice, zašto ih ne bismo koristili i mi? S Alphinih Internet stranica skinuta je shema coolera koju možete pronaći ovdje , i krenulo se s premjeravanjem. Pomalo sam već bio poludio dok nije pravi majstor uletio u moj projekt - moj tata Zdravko, zvan "TataMata praktične izrade". Moj akademski projekt je spustio u vode finalnog proizvoda.

Da krenemo s opisom.

Kako je Alpha američki proizvod, svi navoji i šerafi su colnog promjera i colnog uspona na narezu, tako da smo bili primorani izraditi sve na metričkoj bazi iznova. Glavna ideja je bila da pomoću dvije pločice, koje bi bile učvršćene na rupe koje služe za montažu plastičnog podnožja za cooler, simuliramo matičnu ploču na koju se inače montira cooler na Socket462 bazi. To smo postigli pomoću dvije aluminijske pločice.

Odabir materijala je bio problematičan. Prvo smo kanili upotrijebiti pertinaks, tip neprovodljive plastike koja se nalazi u svakom kompjutoru kao nosač vodova, jer svaka matična ploča ili grafička kartica su pertinaks ploče s vodovima. No, pertinaks je odbačen zbog slabih mehaničkih svojstava. Kako je Alpha s ventilatorom teška nekih 500g, došlo bi do njegova savijanja i cooler više ne bi prijanjao na procesor. Sljedeći izbor je bio rostfrai čelik. Krenuli smo s njime zbog njegove velike čvrstoće. Nakraju se ta čvrstoća pokazala prevelikim problemom jer nismo mogli s 2.5mm borerom probušiti rupe i narezati kvalitetan navoj. Krajnje rješenje je bila aluminijska pločica debljine 3mm. Isprva smo ju odbacili kao premekanu (gledali smo ploču koja je bila formata A4 i dozla boga se savijala pod rukom), ali kada smo izrezali pločicu zadanih dimenzija iznenadili smo se njezinom krutošću. Dimenzije koje smo odabrali kao najprikladnije su 95X17mm. Time smo dobili dovoljno prostora za bušenje rupa, a usput i izbjegli kondenzatore koji okružuju Socket478. Pločica je otprilike duga kao i plastično podnožje na koje se montira standarni cooler pa ne smeta za okolne komponente. Širina nam omogućava smještaj po 4 rupe potrebne za montažu, po dvije za montažu pločica na matičnu ploču i dvije za montažu coolera na pločicu.

Na samoj Alphi nije ništa mijenjano jer bismo time sigurno izgubili na njezinim svojstvima. Kako je u podnožju bakar koji je utisnut u aluminijsku košuljicu, bilo kakvim bušenjem bi došlo do razdvajanja metala zbog velike temperature koja se javlja kod bušenja, a samim tim i do mijenjanja provodljivosti koja je osnova svakog coolera.

Za pričvršćivanje pločica na matičnu ploču koristili smo M3X15 mm šerafe s dvije podloške i jednom M3 maticom kojom fiksiramo šeraf na ploči, a zatim našerafljujemo pločicu na njega. Iz iskustva smo uvidjeli da je pločice najbolje prišerafiti do kraja do matice. Time su pločice čvrsto fiksirane, a i dobiva se dostatan prostor za ušerafljivanje šerafa kojima pričvršćujemo cooler za pločicu.

Višestrukim premjeravanjem smo odlučili bušiti rupe na pločicama. Zato smo koristili 2.5mm borer jer ćemo kasnije koristiti M3 nareznicu, pa smo morali ostaviti tih 0.5mm za sami navoj. Aluminij je zahvalan materijal što se tiče bušenja i narezivanja, samo je potrebna nešto veća preciznost i mirna ruka jer nema mjesta za pogrešku. Kod narezivanja je potrebno iz prve uhvatiti navoj jer će u protivnom isti bit nejednak. Kada smo izbušili rupe, malo smo ih ferzenkali. Nemate pojma šta je to? Da bi se šeraf što lakše ušerafljivao, proširim, u ovom slučaju 5mm, kako bi taj urez služio kao lijevak.
