Testna konfiguracija koju smo rabili za testiranje OCZ-ovih napajanja jednaka je kao u prethodnom testu napajanja u kojem smo se pozabavili s 610-vatnim napanjem tvrtke PC Power & Cooling, OCZ-ove tvrtke kćeri.

Performanse napajanja mjerili smo u dvije situacije - kada na računalo nije aktivnirana niti jedna aplikacija osim samog operacijskog sustava (dakle kada nema opterećenja) te kada je računalo opterećeno grafički, procesorski i memorijski zahtjevnim aplikacijama. Ovakvo maksimalno opterećenje simulirano je uzastopnim izvođenjem HDR/SM3.0 testa iz 3DMarka06 dok se u pozadini vrti alat Prime95 koji opterećuje sve četiri jezgre procesora (ne blend način rada već "maximal heat, power consumption"). Samim time, jasno je da ovakvo opterećenje praktički nije moguće napraviti normalnim korištenjem računala, pa makar igrali najzahtjevniju igru ili rabili najzahtjevniju aplikaciju za 3D renderiranje. Drugim riječima, vlastito napajanje pri normalnom radu vjerojatno nikada nećete na ovaj način opteretiti.

Što se tiče samih mjerenja, obavili smo ih korištenjem multimetra Fluke 287. Sonde instrumenta pri mjerenju su bile zabodene u odgovarajuće pinove na ATX konektoru. Potrošnja, a time efikasnost napajanja mjerena je s uređajem za nadzor potrošnje koji se može nabaviti u Bauhausu ili sličnim trgovinama. Ovaj uređaj nije osobito precizan, no daje ponovljive rezultate, pa smo mu skloni vjerovati. Samim time, njime ne možemo izmjeriti konkretnu vrijednost efikasnosti napajanja jer bi za to trebali znati potrošnju na izlazima i ulazu. Ono što možemo napraviti je usporediti potrošnju na ulazu napajanja (dakle ono što napajanje "cucla" iz gradske mreže) što nam može reći koliko je neko napajanje više ili manje efikasno u odnosu na naše referentno napajanje. Naše referentno napajanje je PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W.

Opterećenje na napajanju generirali smo pomoću malo snažnije računalne konfiguracije koja se sastoji od kombinacije četverojezgrenog Intelovog procesora, dva gigabajta memorije i para Radeon HD 2900 XT kartica. Najveći potrošači struje u konfiguraciji su upravo ove grafičke kartice jer su notorne po potrošnji. To ujedno i glavni razlog zašto ih nismo zašto ih nismo zamjenili s modernijim modelima.

12-voltni vod na oba OCZ-ova napajanja reguliran je kako treba. Oscilacije ostaju u domeni druge decimale što je obzirom na varijacije opterećenja očekivano. Ako se pitate zašto nema mjerenja 500-vatnog modela pod CrossFireom, odgovor je jednostavan - napajanje potrebnu snagu jednostavno nije u stanju isporučiti. Zašto je to tako postat će vam jasnije kada kasnije vidite grafikon potrošnje.

Ovaj dijagram vrijednosti 12-voltnog voda zavisno o opterećenju jasno ilustrira kako se određeno napajanje nosi s energetskim zahtjevima moćnijih računalnih komponenti. OCZ je sa svojim napajanjima napravio dobar posao, pa su razlike u odnosu na PC Power & Coolingove modele minimalne.

Vrijednosti 5-voltne naponske linije kod oba su OCZ-ova napajanja više od idealnih. Tome ipak ne treba pridavati osobitu pažnju jer je riječ o par milivata što je zaista tričarija. Kako opterećenje raste, tako napon na 5-voltnoj liniji pada, no prilično sporo što je dobro.

Kod 3,3-voltnog voda ništa novo - OCZ-ovi su vrlo blizu idealnim vrijednostima ATX specifikacije, a situacija se mnogo ne mijenja porastom opterećenja.

Na kraju tu je mjerenje efikasnosti. Konkretne vrijednosti nažalost nemamo obzirom da je za takvo što potrebno znati ulaznu i izlaznu snagu napajanja (mi znamo samo ulaznu). Ipak, usporedba s ostalim testiranim napajanjima koja su testirana pod jednakim uvjetima može nam reći koliko je dobro odrađen posao u ovom segmentu.

Efikasnost OCZ-ovih napajanja vrlo je slična efikasnosti PC Power & Coolingovih modela. Naime, imajte na umu da efikasnost nije konstantna vrijednost već je riječ o krivulji, pa će se snažnija napajanja bolje nositi s većim opterećenjima dok će se manje snažna napajanja bolje nositi s manjim opterećenjima. Upravo zbog toga je potrebno dimenzionirati snagu napajanja zavisno o specifikacijama računala koje treba napajati.
