Što se tiče odabira komponenti pravila ostaju ista, potrebno je čitati recenzije na Internetu i odabrati ih s obzirom na financijske mogućnosti. Kod procesora je bitno da je iz određene serije i da nije najbrži u klasi. Najbrži procesori su daleko skuplji od srednje brzih modela, a i overclockerske mogućnosti su im slabije. Hoćemo više za svoj novac, zar ne? Matična ploča je bitna zbog toga što o njoj ovisi mogućnost dizanja brine sabirnice, memorije i procesora. Bilo bi dobro uzeti ploču na kojoj je moguće lako mijenjati postavke preko BIOS-a, a ako ne onda barem preko jumpera ili DIP prekidača. Kod overclokiranja je vrlo važno dizanje napona memorije (VIO ili VDDR voltaža) i dizanje napona jezgre (Vcore voltaža), stoga birajte ploču na kojoj su iznosi ovih voltaža ručno podesivi. O memoriji ne treba ništa posebno reći osim da su najpouzdanije "brand name" memorije namijenjene za ekstremne perfomanse, dakle Corsair, OCZ, itd... Ovdje treba naglasiti da većina proizvođača koji prodaju tako brzu memoriju (koja i jako lijepo izgleda zbog pasivnih hladnjaka) ne proizvode svoje čipove nego kupuju nadprosječno brze čipove od velikih proizvođača kao što je npr. Samsung, testiraju ih na više konfiguracija, stavljaju na pločice i prodaju po daleko višoj cijeni. Nažalost, takve je memorije kod nas jako teško nabaviti i opet se vraćamo na stric-Njemačka/Zapad varijantu. Da bi što jeftinije prošli preporučam da kao i uvijek prvo proučite kakvu recenziju na Internetu gdje je testirano više tipova memorije gdje su navedene točne serije čipova koje treba tražiti itd... Glede grafičke kartice, također ništa posebno. Bilo bi dobro da je od poznatog proizvođača jer su u pravilu brže i od kvalitetnijih komponenti. Sad dolazimo do komponenti koje su pri overklokiranju jako važne, ali su često i zanemarene. To su napajanje i kućište računala. Dobro napajanje sa stabilnim i valjanim naponima je jedna od garancija za dobro overklokiranje. Za današnje procesore ništa ispod 300 W nije adekvatno, po standardima i u praksi. Nažalost, kod izbora napajanja nema kompromisa - dobro je skupo i točka. Od kvalitetnih napajanja kod nas je dostupan Enermax. Kvalitetna kućišta su također skupa, puno skuplja od normalnih. Dodatni problem je što se kod nas kućišta obično moraju kupiti s ugrađenim napajanjem što im dodatno diže cijenu. Jeftinija varijanta je kupovina jeftinijeg kućišta i modifikacija istog, ali o tome drugi put.

 

Grafička kartica

Tu smo dakle - dolazimo do pravih stvari. Da ne duljim, krenimo za početak s grafičkom karticom. Tu nema puno filozofije, nema nikakvog napona kojeg je potrebno povisiti, samo dva osnovna parametra: brzina procesora i brzina memorije. Da ne bi bilo zabune, na nekim matičnim pločama (novije Soltek ploče) postoji mogućnost dizanja napona na AGP portu, ali nije zabilježeno poboljšanje overclockinga grafičkih kartica. Grafičke kartice se overclockiraju pomoću programčića namijenjenih toj svrsi. Rekao bih da je najpopularniji Powerstrip, a korisnicima nVidia kartica (TNT, GeForce,...) bih preporučio Riva Tuner (mislim da se oba dva nalaze na našoj download listi). Postupak "dizanja" takta je sasvim jednostavan. Obično se u programu nalazi slider (klizač) koji se pri prvom pokretanju programa nalazi na normalnom (tvorničkom) taktu. To je npr. kod GeForce 2 GTS kartice takt 200/333, prvi broj se odnosi na takt GPU-a (procesora na kartici), a drugi broj na brzinu memorije. Iznosi su izraženi u MHz-ima. Kod overclockiranja grafičke kartice treba prvo dizati radni takt memorije zbog činjenice da je brzina memorije pri ukupnim performansama najvažnija. Takt se diže po malo, na početku po 5, a dalje po 1-2 MHz-a. Naravno, nakon svakog dizanja radnog takta treba provjeriti funkcionalnost kartice, a za tu svrhu će poslužiti 3DMark2000 ili 3DMark2001. Ako se standardni benchmark ne ruši i ako je pri izvođenju testa slika na monitoru zadovoljavajuća, bez artefakata (čudnih tekstura) i snijega (bijelih crtica koje kao da padaju s vrha ekrana prema dnu), može se reći da overclock zadovoljava. Postupak se ponavlja dok se ne nađe takt na kojem se benchmark ruši ili se pojavljuju nepravilnosti na ekranu. Za završnu vrijednost takta memorije uzima se predzadnja vrijednost, dakle zadnja vrijednost na kojoj se benchmark izvodi normalno. Nakon što smo našli granicu za memoriju, tražimo granicu za procesor grafičke kartice. Postupak je potpuno isti, samo sad dižemo takt procesora. To je to što se tiče samog dizanja takta memorije i procesora, ostaje nam još jedna sitnica. Poznato je da su driveri za grafičke kartice daleko od savršenstva. Ako zbrojimo dva i dva doći ćemo do zaključka da razne verzije drivera različito reagiraju na overclock. Tu nema nikakvog pravila, treba isprobavati i isprobavati.
