Računalo koje nam je poslužilo za testiranje Chieftecovog napajanja tipičan je high-end sustav namijenjen igračima, a koji se sastoji od Lynnfield procesora i odgovarajuće matične ploče, četiri gigabajta radne memorije, Radeona HD 5870 te jednog tvrdog diska i optičkog pogona.

Performanse napajanja mjerili smo u tri situacije - kada računalo nije opterećeno, kada je opterećeno uz uporabu normalnih postavki te kada je opterećeno uz korištenje overclockerskih postavki. U slučaju overclockiranja procesor smo gurnuli do maksimuma kojeg je moguće dostići uz uporabu zračnog hladnjaka. Takt mu je tada iznosio 3,9 GHz za što je bilo nužno osjetno povećati napone jezgre i memorijskog kontrolera.

Opterećenje smo generirali uz pomoć aplikacija Furmark i Prime95. Prva je bila zadužena za gaženje grafičke kartice, a druga za gaženje procesora. Kod Furmarka smo koristili rezoluciju 1.280x1.024 uz Xtreme Burning Mode opciju dok smo kod Primea 95 rabili opciju maximal power consumption odnosno in-place large FFT. Svakako treba napomenuti da ovakvo opterećenje nikada nećete uspjeti dostići normalnim korištenjem računala, nezavisno o tome da li igrate neku zahtjevnu igru ili koristite nekakav profesionalni program.

Što se tiče samih mjerenja, obavili smo ih korištenjem multimetra Fluke 287. Sonde instrumenta pri mjerenju su bile zabodene u odgovarajuće pinove na ATX konektoru. Potrošnja, a time efikasnost napajanja mjerena je s uređajem za nadzor potrošnje koji se može nabaviti u Bauhausu ili sličnim trgovinama.

Mjeračem potrošnje ne možemo izmjeriti konkretnu vrijednost efikasnosti napajanja jer bi za to trebali znati potrošnju na izlazima i ulazu. Ono što možemo napraviti je usporediti potrošnju na ulazu napajanja (dakle ono što napajanje "cucla" iz gradske mreže) što nam može reći koliko je neko napajanje više ili manje efikasno.

 

Rezultati testiranja

Kao i obično, krećemo s performansama najbitnijeg, 12-voltnog voda. Kako krajnje vrijednosti na X osi grafikona označavaju toleranciju ATX specifikacije, jasno je da se Chieftecovo napajanje ponaša prilično solidno. Pad napona pri prelasku iz donjeg u gornji režim rada prilično je velik, no to je posve očekivano obzirom na to da je riječ o budget napajanju.

Trend velikih oscilacija vrijednosti napona nastavlja se i s 5-voltnim vodom. Već u startu vrijednost napona nije idealna (5 volta) već postoji devicijacija od oko 0,1 volta. S povećanjem opterećenja vrijednost napona se osjetno povećava, no i dalje se drži na solidnom razmaku od maksimalne vrijednosti ATX specifikacije.

Niti 3,3-voltni rail nije idealno reguliran. Uz minimalno opterećenje testnog računala vrijednosti su više od idealnih, a pod opterećenjem osjetno padaju. Ne baš idealno za die-hard overclockere, no za prosječnog korisnika ne osobito bitno.

Kao što možemo vidjeti na grafikonu, zbog overclockiranja smo iz gradske mreže pod opterećenjem morali povući 50-ak vata više nego pri korištenju normalnih postavki. Premda se na ovom grafikonu to nažalost ne vidi, loša efikasnost je vjerojatno najveći problem modela CTG-500-80P, unatoč promotivnom 80+ znakovlju koje smo spomenuli u opisu napajanja. Prema našim testiranjima, Chieftecov modela pod opterećenjem ima između 5 i 10 posto lošiju efikasnost u odnosu na napajanja sličnih specifikacija. Ruku na srce, naša referentna napajanja ujedno su i osjetno skuplja nego CTG-500-80P što nas opet dovodi do otrcane fraze - kol'ko para, tol'ko i muzike. Također imajte na umu da efikasnost nije linearna vrijednost. Drugim riječima, ona varira zavisno o opterećenju napajanja. To ujedno objašnjava činjenicu da Chieftecovo napajanje pri minimalnom opterećenju pokazuje jednaku efikasnost kao i spomenuta skuplja napajanja.

Prije nego što se bacimo na zaključak, riječ-dvije o buci. Unatoč očekivanjima, testirano je napajanje prilično tiho. Nećemo reći nečujno jer to jednostavno nije istina, no prosječan korisnik koji računalo drži pod stolom sigurno ga neće primjetiti pri radu.
