Najdublje tajne BIOS-a

- Uvod -

Onaj tko bude kopirao ili na bilo koji način raspačavao ovaj BIOS vodič (ili bilo koje njegove dijelove) sudski ću ga goniti do kraja života, pojavljivat ću mu se u snovima, neće nikad više imat mira... Ako negdje vidim da je ovaj članak objavljen bez moje dozvole ili dozvole PC Eksperta odoše nekome par ekstremiteta.

Mnogo ljudi uopće ni ne zna što je BIOS, i njegova modifikacija može se nekad negativno odraziti na rad računala i zato mi (PC Ekspert) ne možemo i nećemo preuzeti nikakvu odgovornost ako se što loše desi prilikom podešavanja BIOS-a prema uputama iz ovoga vodiča. Sada kad sam vas malo preplašio možemo nastaviti.

Za vodič su korištena vlastita saznanja, iskustva te tehnička dokumentacija o BIOS-u (koja se može naći na Internetu).

U vodiču ima mnogo stručnih riječi koje ili nisam znao kako prevesti ili ih nisam ni htio prevesti da ne izgube smisao izvornom jeziku.

Iza kratice BIOS skriva se ovaj puni naziv - Basic Input Output System. U najužem smislu riječi to je software koji posreduje između hardwarea i operativnog sistema i raznih drugih aplikacija. BIOS se ne nalazi samo na matičnoj ploči već ga imaju i grafička kartica, mrežna kartica, SCSI kontroleri... Riječ BIOS je vrlo stara i dolazi od prvih AT računala. Tada su proizvođači krenuli različitim putevima i netko je morao nešto poduzeti kako bi našao standard koji bi svima odgovarao. IBM je uzeo inicijativu u svoje ruke i tako je nastao BIOS. Postoji par vrsta BIOS-a od kojih su danas najrasprostranjeniji Award i AMI BIOS, dok su drugi poznati Amit, Arche, AT&T, Compaq, Olivetti, Microid, IBM, HP, Phoenix, itd.

BIOS je prva stvar koja se pojavljuje kad upalite računalo. U BIOS se ulazi kod se računalo POST-a (Power On Self Test) i to raznim kombinacijama tipki, obično su to del, esc ili ctrl + esc... BIOS provjerava cijeli sistem od procesora do memorije i učitavanja operativnog sitema. Svaki puta kad upalite računalo prvi se pali BIOS, on zadaje procesoru naredbu da pročita što ima na adresi FFFF:0000h. Ova adresa sadrži samo 16 byteova i ona kaže procesoru "gdje se nalazi BIOS ".

BIOS firmware se pohranjuje u BIOS ROM-u (EEPROM = Electrically Programmable Read Only Memory), a CMOS čuva podatke u CMOS RAM-u. Kada se upali računalo BIOS čita podatke iz CMOS RAM-a koji ima veličinu od 64 bajta. U CMOS RAM-u se pohranjuje još i RTC (vrijeme) i zato postoji baterija koja čuva podatke o vrijednostima BIOS-a i sata. Sada kada idete "resetirat BIOS" (pravilnije je reći CMOS), što se dogodi? U CMOS-u nakon gubitka napajanja se ne nalazi ništa i pri paljenu računala u CMOS se učitavaju default vrijednosti iz BIOS ROM-a. Zbog ovakvog sistema rada ne trebate se bojati da kad ostanete bez baterije ostanete i bez BIOS-a.

Cjepidlake će sada upitati što se dogodi kada flashate BIOS? E tada se sadržaj BIOS ROM-a briše i tada je vrlo važno da računalo ne ostane bez napajanja. Ako ostane bez napona ostajete bez BIOS-a, tj. u 95% slučajeva (op.a 5% = pozdrav Gigabyteu i Dual BIOS-u) ostajete bez matične ploče. BIOS ROM se briše kratkim spajanje odrđenih kontakata integriranog kruga, a u prošlosti se još brisao i kratkim izlaganjem ultraljubičastom zračenju.
