Na test nam je iz UZI Shopa stigla AHCI verzija Samsungovog SM951 M.2 PCIe SSD-a. Riječ je o uređaju kojeg ugrađujemo na M.2 Socket 3 utore kompatibilne s 2280 standardnom, odnosno uređajima dužine 80 mm. Ovakvi su SSD-i namijenjeni podjednako ugradnji na moderne desktop matične ploče, malene HTPC-e ali i u prijenosnike. Prednost su im malene dimenzije i brzina koju donosi PCI Express sučelje. Osim ove AHCI verzije, na tržištu se odnedavno nalazi i novija, modernija NVMe verzija koja donosi nešto više performanse. Vrlo bitno za naglasiti je i kako je ovo PCIe x4 uređaj i za maksimalne performanse zahtijeva takvu verziju konektora na matičnoj ploči ili pak PCIe adapter. Mi smo uređaj testirali na dvije različite matične ploče i utvrdili kako se jedino performanse transfera razlikuju, a kako su I/O performanse vrlo slične.

SM951 je baziran na Samsungovom S4LN058A01 kontroleru, a dolazi u kapacitetima od 1280, 256 i 512GB. NAND je MLC tipa, a napravljen je u Samsungovom 19 nm proizvodnom procesu (čipovi su 64 Gbitne gustoće). Model kojeg smo mi imali na testu ima sekvencijalnu brzinu čitanja od 2150 MB/s i sekvencijalnu brzinu zapisa od 1.200 MB/s. 4K nasumične performanse su 90.000 IOPS-a za čitanje i 70K IOPS-a za zapis. U aktivnom stanju troši oko 6.5W, u stanju mirovanja oko 50 mW, a podržava i L1.2 stanje (slično devSleep-u) pri čemu troši samo 2 mW energije.

I premda je riječ o Samsungovom disku, samo djelomično podržava Magician softver, što znači kako ne možemo koristiti sve njegove funkcionalnosti. SM951 ne podržava nikakav tip enkripcije, a jamstvo je trogodišnje.

SM951 smo isprobali na dvije matične ploče i na dva različita PCIe konektora. Na Gigabyteovoj se X99 Gaming G1 ploči nalazi M.2 Socket 3 brzine x2, a na Rampage V Extreme ploči onaj brzine x4. Stoga će u grafovima biti prikazana oba rezultata kako bi korisnici s jednim i s drugim tipom konektora znali što ih očekuje.

Način testiranja

Disk smo testirali na Gigabyteovoj X99-gaming G1 ploči s Intelovim i7-5820K procesorom ali i na Asusovoj Rampage V Extreme s i7-5960X procesorom. Naime, performanse propusnosti ovoga diska uvelike ovise o tipu konektora koji se nalazi na ploči pa je na Gigabyteovoj ploči radio u 2x PCIe modu, a na Asusovoj u 4x PCIe modu. U sporijem su mu performanse propusnosti limitirane na vrijednosti koje ćete vidjet u grafovima, dok na 4x brzini radi s punim performansama. Ipak, tako je samo kod performansi propusnosti, sve ostalo kao što su vremena pristupa i I/O performanse su vrlo bliske.

Prilikom testiranja je disk radio s AHCI driverima, što su mu dodijelili Windowsi 8.1. Uz sve standardne testove koje provodimo tu je i simulacija četiriju situacija uz pomoć I/O Metera – Database sa 67% čitanja i 33% zapisa, Workstation sa 80% čitanja i 20% zapisa, Web Servera sa 100% čitanja i File Servera sa 80% čitanja i 20% zapisa, nakon čega ispisujemo broj izmjerenih IOPS-a. Uz to, kao i kod OCZ diskova, napravili smo i Sustained Performance 12 satni test kako bi utvrdili ponašanje performansi tijekom vremena. Savjeti za svakodnevnu operativu SSD-a pod Windows OS-om uključuju isključivanje stvari kao što su indeksiranje diska, zatim isključivanje prefetcha i Superfetcha te defragmentiranja koje je sasvim nepotrebno.

SM951 smo ovdje uspjeli testirati tek u 2x modu, zbog ujednačavanja s ostatkom diskova koji su također testirani na i7-5820K no ionako su ovdje njegove performanse najbolje. S jačim procesorom bi naravno bile još i bolje. Ovo se u svakodnevnom radu neće osjetiti jer dužeg linearnog zapisa praktički ni nema, no savjet je svakako osigurati dobar propuh unutar kućišta. Kod nasumičnog zapisa je ipak došlo do drastičnog skoka u performansama jer throtlinga nema. Vremena pristupa su u oba slučaja vrlo slična.

No, to je i logično zbog načina na koji ATTO mjeri performanse. Kao što vidimo, rezultati su sasvim pristojni i ovaj disk bi se dobro snašao u okruženju radne stanice ili servera.

Zaključak

Nakon ovoga testa jasno je da ukoliko želite maksimalno brzi SSD tada je M.2 Socket 3 za sada najbolja opcija ukoliko ne računamo diskove koji dolaze u obliku PCIe add-in kartica. No, istovremeno je potrebno voditi računa da imamo matičnu ploču koja podržava x4 PCIe socket. SM951 pokazuje izvrsne performanse u svim uvjetima, a pogotovo tamo gdje je to najbitnije. Kada je riječ o sustained I/O performansama one su kao što smo vidjeli najbolje kod OCZ-ovih novih SSD-a, no i SM951 se tu dobro drži. U ovoj 256GB izvedbi i po cijeni od oko 190 € u EU riječ je o izvrsnom sistemskom disku koji će zadovoljiti i one najprobirljivije.
